Paul Appleyard

Paul has dual British and French citizenship and has worked in the translation and information technology industries for more than 25 years. With a postgraduate translation qualification, and winner of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting’s Interpreting Assessment Award in 2019, he has experience as a Software Support Engineer, Computational Linguist, Terminologist, Translator, Interpreter, and Translation Manager, and has worked for industry leaders in Europe and the USA.

Paul has spoken at a number of events as well as contributing to translation courses at University of Westminster and University of Surrey.

Paul is a Certified Member of the American Translators Association, he is past chair (2019-2022) and a fellow of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting, a Member of the Société Française des Traducteurs and a Member of the British Computer Society.

Patricia Sommer

Patricia Sommer is a French national born and bred in the Champagne district. She has been a professional translator for over 25 years, firstly in-house where she also carried out the duties of project manager and subsequently as a freelance. She has also taught on a  translation course at Surrey University. Her degree (Maîtrise d’anglais, mention très bien) is from the University of Reims and her DESS in Translation is from the University of Lille. Patricia has lived and worked in both the UK and France.

Patricia has taken part in panel discussions at ITI Conferences and has presented on translating for development as part of the Translating for danger zones seminar series.

Patricia is a Member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting. She is also a member of the Society of Authors and Mediterranean Editors and Translators.
